Regardless of what level we play guitar at, we can always improve our
playing. Good players realize this and find themselves in a constant search for ways to improve. And their are a lot of ways to improve: you can work on your finger dexterity, you can learn some new scales, and box shapes on the guitar neck. And another great way to improve the quality of guitar playing is to learn more chords. We all started learning the common guitar chords as soon as we began learning to play. The important concept is to not rest on laurels but to be in a constant mode of working to continuously increase the amount of chords we know. The more chords we know, the better, more versatile, and more lively our playing will sound.

The focus of this book is on giving you the knowledge to play all the guitar chords used in popular Rock songs. And while the focus genre is Rock, you can benefit from the hundreds of chords presented in the book, no matter what style of music you call your favorite. There are a lot of chords presented in the book. And so you don't get too overwhelmed with this daunting task, the author of the book has placed an asterisk next to the most popular chords, or the chords that are used the most in rock songs. This gives you some direction in where you'll want to focus in the beginning. Then later fill in with all the other chords and expand your chord vocabulary.

Here's a list of the main basic types of chords you'll learn to play from this book. Bear in mind that some of the chords are of the barre or moveable variety, and some of the chords are of the non-moveable type. The chords of the book are divided into three large, main sections. The first section of the book being devoted to chords that have their root on the sixth string. And the second section of the book covers the chords that have their root on the fifth string of the guitar. And finally, the third main section of the book is where you'll find all the chords that have their root on the fourth string. Note that the moveable chords that have their root on the fourth string are played with sound the sixth string.

In order to illustrate the use of the chords and give you an idea what they sound like in actual use, as they are introduced in the book, they are followed by some short chord progressions. You can play and practice these progressions, get an idea what the chords sound like around other chords, and get some practice with the new chords you're learning. The appendix of the book has a chord catalog that lists all the chords in one area for quick lookup. It also contains some sections on guitar tuning, and guitars, amplifiers, and speakers.
