We love our guitars!
Perhaps more so than other musicians, most guitar players hold a close attachment to their instruments. We collect them, talk about them, display them on the walls of our living rooms, we just can't get enough of guitars and all the amps and accesories that go along with them.
Guitar players really do love their guitars. And most of us would identify with and agree stringly with the words of Eric Clapton in the forword to this book where he basically says how much playing the guitar has helped him and made his life better. And that's what makes this book so great is that it's all about guitars.
This is something of an encyclopedia of the history of the guitar and the people who have played the guitar and the music that has been made on the guitar throughout history. This book transcends most all musical styles. The book's organization is done by the style of music. Then, inside of each genre is a somewhat chronologic covering of the style. Genres covered in the book include Rock, Pop, Country, Blues, Jazz, Flamenco, Folk, Classical, etc.
This encyclopedia-type book is loaded with a lot of large, color photographs, some standard notation music that illustrates the musical styles, and a lot of short, interesting insets that tell about the different musical styles that use the guitar.
Most of the pages have 2, 3, 4, or more photos, and we were unable to find one that had none.
Jimmy Page, Brian May, Jeff Beck, Gary Moore are examples of the artists you'll read about in the Rock UK section. In all, there are more than 300 guitar players that are talked about and featured in the book.
In the back of the book is a glossary of guitar terms and a full index to the contents.
