This is a great book to get if you're interested in playing the Blues on guitar.
You can get a lot out of this book if you've been playing for a long time, or you can use this book to learn to play Blues guitar even if you've never played the guitar before.
Some of the topics covered include musical notation, scales, and the theory behind blues chords. You'll learn open and bar chords. 12 bar blues progressions, turnarounds, and fingerstyle blues.

- Starting Out
- The book starts out with an introduction and a history of Blues music. The book basically assumes no prior music knowledge and continues on with a few pages spent teaching basics like parts of the guitar, how to hold the guitar, and how to tune the guitar. Music notation is covered with the staff, notes, rests, etc. Major scales, key signatures, the circle of fifths, and scale degrees. Some chord theory is presented next.
- Open Chords
- Chapter 2 picks up with the topic of open chords. Chord diagrams are explained, how to hold the guitar pick, major triads, dominant 7, minor triads. The chapter finishes up with augmented and diminished chords, and then a chapter review.
- 12 Bar Blues
- In chapter 3 you get introduced to the 12 bar blues.
Different keys of the 12 bar blues are taught including Blues in E, Blues in A, Blues in C, etc. Each of the different keys is used in examples to show you the different rhythm patterns for strumming.

This is a fun book with a lot of great information. This makes a great first book for learning the guitar because they start at the beginning, and because the material is fun. And because you'll recognize songs you like as you learn the Blues riffs, it motivates you to keep learning.

- Bar Chords
- Bar chords are introduced in chapter 4, along with the concept of playing Blues in any key you want to. E-form bar chords, A-form bar chords, and D-form bar chords are taught. Practice exercises are included for you to practice the bar chords you've learned.
- Power Chords
