Technical Details of the Phaser Effect
Using electronics, phasers are able to move a bump in the frequency response up and down the spectrum. (this is similar to flanging, which produces more bumps or notches at varying frequencies.)
This electronically created signal is mixed together with the original signal from the guitar causing it to be added in some frequencies and cancelled out in others. There phaser is able to vary the frequencies where this takes place giving its unique sound.
Setting up the Phaser effect for your guitar
The main settings for your phaser are Speed and Resonance. You can set the speed to a multiple of the tempo of the song you are playing. (1x, 2x, 3x, etc.) Some effects have a Tap button that makes it easier to sync up with the tempo of the song.
Use the resonance setting to adjust the amount of resonance you want in the phaser effect being added to your playing. More resonance add to the frequencies where they are in phase. As you increase the resonance of the phasing, it tends to make to effect more pronounced.
