Digital Delay for electric guitar is the sound of what you've just
played repeated a certain amount of time later and for a certain number of repetitions. Depending on the settings of this popular effect, it can give an impression of two guitars playing at once, or the type of echo produced by mountains that are miles apart. Listen carefully to The Edge of U2 for examples of excellent application of the delay effect.
The original guitar delays where analog, magnetic recording tape machines that played a loop of tape over and over to produce a delay effect. Analog delay is still popular today(along with its newer digital counterpart), though it's produced with electronic circuits instead of tape.
